Yrjönkatu Swimming Hall: A historic and beautiful swimming hall in Helsinki

Ok everyone, it's hidden gem time! When I need some time for myself and a moment of relaxation, Yrjönkatu Swimming Hall is my destination. Join me! Yrjönkatu swimming hall will undergo an extensive renovation at the end of 2023 and is supposed to be ready for guests again in 2026.

Yrjönkatu Swimming Hall is a historic and beautiful swimming hall located in the Kamppi district of Helsinki. The swimming hall was built in 1928, and it is the oldest swimming hall in Finland. The swimming hall is known for its stunningly beautiful architecture and its serene atmosphere.

Architecture

The Yrjönkatu Swimming Hall was designed by the Finnish architect Yrjö Lindegren. The swimming hall is built in the Neoclassical style, and it features a large swimming pool, a sauna, and a shower hall.

The swimming pool is the most impressive feature of the swimming hall. The pool is surrounded by marble columns and statues. The pool is also lit by natural light from the skylights in the ceiling.

Atmosphere

The Yrjönkatu Swimming Hall is lothing like the typical seimming halls with its serene and relaxing atmosphere. The swimming hall is very popular with locals, and it is a great place to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

Saunas

The Yrjönkatu Swimming Hall has several saunas: electric saunas on the first floor, a traditional Finnish wooden sauna, infrared sauna and a steam sauna on the second floor. The saunas are a great way to relax and warm up after a swim.

Spa section

The Yrjönkatu Swimming Hall has a spa section on the second floor and you'll need to pirchase an extra ticket to enter there. The spa section features a number of different saunas. On top of the ones open for all there is one sauna that can be booked for private groups for an extra fee.

The spa section is open to both men and women, and it is a great place to relax and rejuvenate. However, it is important to note that the spa section can get crowded, especially on weekends so prepare to wait or arrive on time.

Café Yrjö

Café Yrjö is a café located on the second floor of the Yrjönkatu Swimming Hall and serves the second floor guests. The café serves a variety of tasty snacks, sandwiches, and sweet treats. Café Yrjö is a great place to relax and enjoy a bite to eat after a swim or a spa treatment.

Separate days for men and women

It is important to note that the Yrjönkatu Swimming Hall has separate days for men and women. Men are allowed to use the swimming hall on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Women are allowed to use the swimming hall on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
