Vallisaari: A Transformed Military Fortress into a Haven for Art and Recreation in Helsinki
As we are entering the summer months I'd like to share with you one of my favourite summer destinations, Vallisaari. A 20-minute ferry trip from the Market Square takes you to a natural paradise with wonderful views, unique nature and nice hiking paths. The ferry operates typically from May to September, so Vallisaari is definitely a summer destination. I n the heart of the Helsinki archipelago, Vallisaari Island stands as a testament to Finland's rich and intricate history. This former military fortress, once a strategic stronghold protecting the city from seaborne threats, has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving into a vibrant recreational destination and an artistic haven.
