History

The Finnish Museum of Photography K1 traces its roots back to 1961, when the Finnish Photographic Society established a photographic archive with the aim of preserving and promoting Finnish photography. Over the years, the museum has grown into a renowned institution dedicated to showcasing the rich history and diverse practices of photography in Finland and beyond.

In 1996, the museum relocated to its current location in Aleksanterinkatu, a prominent street in the heart of Helsinki. The new building, designed by the renowned architect Pekka Kärki, provided the museum with ample space to accommodate its growing collection and expand its exhibition and educational programs.

Today, the Finnish Museum of Photography K1 stands as a testament to the power of photography to capture moments in time, tell stories, and inspire creativity. Its extensive collection, spanning over 150,000 photographs, offers a glimpse into the evolution of the art form, from its early beginnings to its contemporary manifestations.




Exhibitions

The Finnish Museum of Photography K1 curates a diverse range of exhibitions that explore the art form from various perspectives, covering historical, contemporary, and international themes. The museum's permanent exhibitions delve into the evolution of photography in Finland, showcasing the works of pioneering photographers and showcasing emerging talent.

Hallgrímskirkja is a Lutheran parish church in Reykjavík, Iceland. At 74.5 meters (244 ft) tall, it is the largest church in Iceland and among the tallest structures in the country.
